DOWN-STAY

We have kind of a ritual at our house.  Mom and Dad have soup & sandwiches for lunch every day.  They save the carrots (and some bites of chicken) for me and Stanley.  Then we review our commands and get the carrots and chicken bites for treats.  Mom usually has me do the commands that I like to ignore her on cuz she knows I will NOT ignore her for carrots and chicken bites!  She says this habit helps keep us sharp.

Today, after we did our commands and ate all the carrots and chicken bites, mom and dad put us in a 3 minute DOWN-STAY.  We haven't practiced them in quite some time.

Sometimes when we practice our STAYS, mom likes to use the time to snap a few pictures.  She says it is the only time we stay still long enough.

Me and Stanley find the whole thing rather boring.  As a matter of fact, we can't even keep our eyes open.   Zzzzzzzzzzz . . .

Hi there, Great job on your down stay!!! I realized today that I haven't been working with Hunter enough-I told him to "drop"and he took a long time, so I need to get us back on track. I keep thinking about your neighbors dogs, makes me so sad.
Hope you have a pawsome afternoon.

Booooring!! When Riley was 3 months old and in her basic obedience class, the trainer told us that at the end of the 8 week class, our dogs would be able to do over a 30 minute down-stay! Sure enough, about halfway through the 8 week class, Riley was doing 30 minute down-stays. I couldn't believe it!

Of course, Riley hates doing down-stays...she'd much rather be on the move! I don't make her do 30 minute ones anymore, but it was very helpful when she was a super energetic/hyper puppy--gave me a bit of a break! :)

Good job, Doods!

That is a great way to practise- I will try it out on Dina but I bet she won't sit still long enough. Well done, guys!

Might as well nap if you have to down stay that long. That way you won't get too bored.

You guys must be the best behaved dogs on the blogs! I must get Samson to read your blog a bit more often. Good doggies! And what responsible owners your mom and dad are. It feels so good to know that at least some dogs get the very best of care, love and attention from their moms and dads.

Three minutes? I love chicken more than life itself, but I don't think that I could sit still for THREE ENTIRE MINUTES even for that. You two are SUPER DOODS!!!

Yes for practicing commands. It is very important to do it no matter where ... well carrots and chicken that's PAWSOME. Mom loves soup too and she always eat soup even in the summer.
Hope on your next post you'll have some great news about your not so nice to dogs neighbor. Golden Woofs, Sugar

Humans! They just have these silly ideas about giving treats. We think 3 minutes is a long time. You should get extra carrots and chicken.
