Honoring Leroy, Reggie & Greta On Pet Memorial Day

Thanks to Ranger, for telling us that today is Pet Memorial Day.  So we want to take the time to recognize the two brothers who lived with out pawrents before we did.  Both these brothers lived around 14 years and after the second one died (Reggie), our pawrents said it was too painful to lose a dog and they would NEVER AGAIN get another dog.  It took 5 years and Goose to make them change their minds and me and Stanley are glad!

This is Leroy.  His full name was Leroy Brown cuz he was the baddest dog in the whole damn town.  Mom got him when he was a tiny puppy.  When she met dad, Leroy was a year old and dad always called him "City Slicker".  (That was in dad's cowboy days.)  Leroy LOVED wearing sweaters and this was his favorite one.

This is Reggie.  He was a lost dog that one of mom's friends found.  He had a tag on him with the name "Bo" and a phone number but the lady who answered the phone said she "got rid" of him cuz her boyfriend was allergic and she didn't know who took him.  The friend saw that writing on the wall.  She knew mom was softhearted so she brought Reggie to mom's office one day and said he needed a home.  He was about 2 years old at that time.  The scheme worked and Reggie found his furever home. Every time dad took off his belt to get ready for bed Reggie would cringe.  But Reggie had a heart as big as Texas and as soon as he figured out mom and dad would love him he loved them back like only a dog can love.

So today me and Stanley honor our brothers Leroy and Reggie.  They were two well loved dogs and they paved the way for me and Stanley even though it would be a long time before we were born.

There were many dogs who were born when we were but there was a special girl who was born the same month and year that we were born.  She was named Greta and she came to live with Bailey and Hazel in Idaho.  They were the Idaho Pug Ranch! Greta was happy and she knew she was in her furever home.  She was loved like crazy by good pawrents!  We were lucky enough to meet Greta in the furs recently, on September 6th.

We had so much fun running and playing.  She loved playing fetch too!  Greta's ears were flying in the air cuz she was running so fast!  She'd holler to us "Catch me if you can!" and be laughing as she made a quick turn to try and throw us off.  But all the while we were having such a good time, none of us realized that she had already eaten a bad mushroom and this would be her last time to run and play.

Sometimes it seems like a cruel miscalculation of nature that a dog's life is so much shorter than a human's life. But all of us dogs know how to make use of every minute of our lives.  We don't waste today by worrying about tomorrow.  And if we find a human to love us, and receive the love we have to give in return, then we have already taught the most impawtent lesson . . . never be afraid to love too much.

Thank you Leroy, Reggie, and Greta for including us in your lives! We have been blessed to have known and loved you!

what a touching post, dear doodles. It's a sweet way to honor Greta and it's good that Reggie and Leroy are always in your hearts too. How Leroy became the "baddest dog in the whole damn town"? that sounds like a distinguished career to me :o)

Dear Doods....first of all this is the most lovely and heartfelt post we have ever read. We did so love meeting Leroy the baddest dog in the whole damn town. He must have kept your peeps in stitches. Reggie who found he furever home with your peeps was most lucky.

The words under the last picture...spoke volumes...Greta and all those before her who belonged to loving parents taught and gave unconditional love. There was a stand up comic many years ago..I think her name was Todie Fields...in one of her routines she said, she told her Mom she would get married when she found a man as happy to see her as her dog.
Lots of hugs for this beautiful post.

So many peeps lose a pet and say never again. But a new pet doesn't replace the lost one, just adds to the quality of life of the peeps....

It is the saddest thing to lose a best friend too soon. That photo of Greta with her winds made my eyes leak. ♥

Hi there boys, What a wonderful post to three great puppers. Did you know that I had a dog before Hunter named Reggie? He was my sister's dog and when she passed I adopted him. WE shared life with him for about 7 yrs. Our human hearts love our furbabies so much, it is hard to imagine life with another pup when one leaves us. I'm so glad your mom and dad got you and that we got Hunter.
Wags and love,

Seeing all the posts about Greta have made me smile, but they've also made me kinda sad too. It's good to see she was so loved by so many.

I enjoyed reading about your pawrents previous pets. I've been thinking about mine today that have passed over the rainbow bridge too.
