PSA - Tick Removal

Unfortunately we learned a lot about tick removal.  The final count (we hope) is 5 ticks for Stanley and 2 for dad.  We think Stanley must have brushed into a nest or something. We learned that the tick does not transmit disease right away. This system is better than burning the tick cuz with burning the tick it basically spits into the skin and transmits pathogens into the host before it dies. We sure hope the medicine we treated him with keeps him safe from disease!

Here is the method we used and it worked very well. You may have seen it on Facebook.  Click HERE.

Eek, I'm glad you're fine now! As I like to say as a candidate, the only good ticks are poli-tics.

Your pal,
Christmas

We hope the medication works. Dogs usually fight off tick borne illnesses easily. Humans on the other hand......we will be saying prayers

We watched the Tick Video... THAT is a GOOD way to get rid of them... We have tried all the OTHER pawsibilities... and the wet Q-tip (cotton Swab) going in a circle seems to work BEST... EVEN in OUR LONG FURS...

EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek We Hate Ticks.

P.S. There are ticks in our area but we don't come in contact with them much at all in our yard. Our pawrents have lived here for over 25 years and have only found 2 ticks on any of the dogs that have been here.

We are so happy there aren't ticks in our area, but we'll have to remember how to remove them it we travel anywhere.

Like Millie and Walter, who live not far from us, we've been lucky to be fairly free of ticks and fleas too. I, Chester, have only had maybe two or three ticks in my lifetime. Thank you so much for the video, though. It seems like a good way to remove those little buggers.

We have a BIG tick problem here during late Spring and early Summer. We are lucky they don't usually "attach", but thanks for the link to the removal method!!

Oh yes we know all about ticks - Bertie quite often picks them up when we have been walking in the hills, despite me dosing him with 'Frontline' as a preventative. I hadn't seen the method you used, but fear that a method requiring a degree of cooperation on the part of the dog would not work with him. I'm afraid I simply pull the tick out using my finger nails as soon as I detect it, before Bertie realises what's going to happen.
Cheers, Gail.

Ticks are evil. Unfortunately, the ticks are so bad up North at the cottage that some years they even gave out tick preventive at NO CHARGE. Unfortunately they don't do that anymore. They are SO hard to remove if they are engorged! We are very glad that all of yours came off easily!

Yikes, you guys! So sorry about the ticks. Paws crossed that everything is A-Ok now. Thanks for sharing the video. I think it's fairly easy on a human but a little tougher turing to get in between the furs to rotate those nasty little buggers. :)
