Our Hero

This happened 3 years ago today . . .

Stanley is a hero!  This morning, while we were all cuddled up on the big bed, sound asleep, he heard a noise so he started barking.  Our pawrents kept telling him to "LEAVE IT".  Dad got up and checked out front and thought maybe Stanley was barking at the newspaper delivery people.

So we tried to go back to sleep and Stanley kept barking and grumbling.  He would NOT stop!  After a little bit mom heard a noise and so dad got up again to check it out.  Dad walked into the kitchen, looked out the window, and saw a man looking in!

Dad was shocked!  Our backyard is totally fenced and the 2 gates are ALWAYS locked.  And in order to get to that window, a person has to go up about 14 stairs onto the deck.  Dad jumped into action and grabbed the man.

Mom heard the commotion so she came into the kitchen, Dad was calling 9-1-1.  The man was sitting in the kitchen, sort of confused (drunk).  The man stayed in the chair but when he tried to move mom shouted for him to sit back down (she used a big HBO word) or she was gonna hit him with the flashlight she was holding.  The man was shocked and sat back down.  About that time the police came to the front door and took the man away.

Did I read it that the man was coming through the window?
I'm just completely speechless ALMOST. The nerve. I don't blame your mom for using HBO words.

Wow Stanley that is so impressive. But you are making me look bad you know. When our house was burgled a couple of years ago, I just ignored the robber and let him get on with stealing Gail's purse and computer while she slept soundly upstairs...

Thank heavens for Stanley. We had a (drunk) man climb over our farm gate, cross our big yard, and come up to our bedroom window once at 4 in the morning. Gertie, our littlest pug, went after him through the screen! Sometimes the littlest are the biggest protectors! Way to go, Stan!

Your Dad is very brave as are all of you. Good job Stanley. Mom said when she was in college she worked in a mortuary, doing light housekeeping and bookkeeping. She was usually there by herself. One day she heard the chime for the front door. A drunk came staggering in from a bar down the street. She locked herself in the office to call police. When they arrived he was passed out in one of the caskets in the sales display room up front. I bet he got the fright of his life when he woke up!

OMD! You should have gotten a medal of honor! That would have been so frightening. I am glad that Stanley didn't mind this one time and continued to bark for your safety. Good Boy!
