Air

First we have to tell you our current card count:  Us 63 -  Pawrents 5

They were going too far down the door so mom started putting them on the banister.

Now, we have to tell you more about our air.  We explained yesterday what an air inversion was and how they happen.  This picture was taken from the end of our driveway.  We live above the worst of the pollution but when we drive down the street we are in the thick of it..

This is straight across the street from our house.  You can see that the mountain looks a bit foggy near the bottom, that is air pollution from the inversion.  Because our pawrents needed to run 13 miles yesterday they had to drive to the other side of this mountain where the air was clean.

Luckily, we live right by the pass so it only takes 20 minutes to drive to the other side of the mountain.  That is also where our pawrents go cross country skiing.  These next pictures were taken after they did their run and they were coming back from the "clean side" of the mountain to our dirty side.  This is the road that winds up the mountain.

After reaching the top and starting to descend down the other side you can easily see the inversion has trapped the pollution.

It hovers over the whole city.  Actually, this is a huge inversion covering multiple counties, most of the northern part of our state.

See the mountains in the distance that are peaking out of the pollution?

You can see that the pollution isn't as thick by our house (that is the same mountain as the one we showed you across the street from our house).  But it is still very bad. (In case you are wondering, Goose and Bert are under the thick of it.)

Now the weather forecasters are saying the storm that is coming on Thursday is falling apart and not going to be strong enough to blow out the air that is trapped by the inversion and mountains.  We sure hope they are wrong!  Now when we complain about an air inversion you will know what it means.  This will happen off and on through the winter months.

NOTICE - Please note the addition of our dear furiend Rory to our POTP page.

Our Mom tries to hold her breath from the East Canyon exit going down Parley's until she reaches the same exit on the way home! It's awful. But at our house (in the clean, warm air) it was 45 yesterday. Which means the snow is melting, but the White Pine track is still skiable - just some thin spots.

Hi there, I had no idea you had such a heavy inversion layer. We sometimes see some from up north but nothing like what you have. When we lived in Ca. we had it though. Glad the storm fell apart; our days are just getting nice. I am going to POTP to read about Rory and say some prayers for him.
Have a great afternoon.
