Our Hike Up Beus Canyon

Mom and dad took us on a hike up Beus Canyon.  If you go about 8 miles on this trail you will arrive at Snow Basin Ski Resort.  I'm told that this was part of the 2002 Winter Olympics, but that was way before my time.

Dad said not to worry about bears because we make so much noise we would scare them away.

Me and Murphy had to cool off in the creek.

This was as far as we could go today.  Dad said further up the trail is a large meadow full of ferns.  He promised that when me and Murphy get bigger and stronger, he would take us there.

Guess Where We Are?

This morning mom called me and Stanley into the kitchen.  "Boys" she said, "it is time you start doing some things on your own."  Stanley and me just looked at each other, totally dumbfounded.  "Huh" we asked with our big, dark eyes.  She went on to say that it was almost like we were "glued at the hip", whatever that means.  She said that we had to learn to be more independent of one another.  Still not sure what she was getting at, when she turned her back we just looked at each other and whispered, "YIKES! No good can come of this!"

So then she let us outside and we started talking about how in the world we were going to comply with her wishes.  I mean, we always TRY to do what our peeps want.  Even when it doesn't make ANY sense at all, like this peeing and pooping outside when they get to do it in the house, in special rooms even! Oh, wait . . . I'm getting side tracked.  Anyway, me and Stanley put our fuzzy heads together (OK, fuzzy is mostly Stanley), and we came up with something we could do separately.

Yuppers!  We're on Facebook!  We each have our own page so that is "S E P A R A T E" from each other so we are sure it qualifies.  We think our peeps will be so happy that we came up with this idea. And guess what else . . .  you can subscribe to us too!

Church & New Friends

Yesterday was a most wonderful day.  You see, at our church, once a month, dogs get to go to church.  Yup, we get to go and sit in the pews with our peeps and praise God, sing the songs, and listen to Goose's mom preach!   We got there extra early.  I was impatient, wondering where everyone else was?

Pretty soon people and other dogs started to show up.  Of course I wanted to meet everyone!

I paid good attention to mom.

Our friend Chris came!  She sat with us last time we came to church.  She pets good.

After awhile, we were just sitting there being good and all of a sudden this big, beautiful dog came over to us.  Our peeps jumped up and announced, "Bert"!  Yes, we FINALLY got to meet Bert!  If you don't know Bert you should go to his blog.  He is a rock star of dogs!

We think Bert might have liked meeting us too.  He wasn't like those big dogs we meet at the parkway, he was REALLY nice!  Stanley didn't even bark at him so I knew right away that Bert was special.

Pretty soon Goose's mom had to start the service so we were sad to see Bert go to his seat.  "Don't worry" Mom said, "You can see Bert more after church."

As soon as church got over, Bert and his Miss Vickie came over to us and we were surprised to see that Annie was there with her mom too!  "Oh wow" our mom exclaimed, "this is wonderful!"  Annie is a full sized Goldendoodle.  She is beautiful!  Mom said her coat felt like some sort of heavenly cotton.  It was so soft!  And of course Annie was really nice too.  Stanley could not wait to get outside and play with Bert and Annie!  This was the first time Stanley wasn't the biggest dog in the yard so our peeps said that was very good experience for him.  We tried to pose in the narthex.  Bert and Annie were showing us how it's done but since this was our first time we weren't very good at it.  (Personally, I couldn't tear myself away from Annie's soft coat, she is quite lovely!)

When we got outside we tried to pose for another group picture.  I'm afraid Stanley and I just don't have the hang of it yet.

You can't tell in this photo but mom said she was full of joy.

Miss Vickie asked if our peeps could put our leashes down.  Mom was nervous but Miss Vickie said she would have Bert help catch us.  We were very good.  A couple times Bert and Annie rounded us up but we came when mom called us.  She was so happy and Stanley and I were having a blast!

Bert was showing us around the yard.  We peed on the grass before but never played, and definitely never played with other dogs!  It was nice having an experienced dog showing us the ropes!

We really had fun just being guys.

Bert has a very experienced nose.  He is a trained search and rescue dog as well as a therapy dog.  He was pointing out some smells that we might have missed.

We played with Annie too but mom didn't get any pictures of that.  She said we were all moving way too fast!  But Miss Vickie might have gotten some so mom might post more pictures later.  It was wonderful (finally) meeting Bert and Annie (and their peeps) and getting to play with them.  We like making new friends and they are wonderful!  But now we are wondering . . . Goose, where are YOU?????

First Grooming

Stanley and me continue to be very busy.  The other day we started working on one of the bird feeders in the yard.  We thought it ruined the ambiance so we figured we'd better take it down.  We haven't gotten it down yet but we are working on it.  We also have removed many bushes and flowers.  We are totally remodeling.

Stanley posted a picture the other day of him hiding in the toy box.  I decided that was a good place to hide so I decided to do it too.  Can you see me?

Our peeps surprised us today and took us to a place they called "groomers".  I don't think they felt too bad because they just handed us over to strangers and left!  We were scared but thought the ladies were nice.  That is until they started making us have a bath!  Stanley was laughing at me until it was his turn.  And the other thing they did was trim up our face hair.  I can see out of my eyes again!  I'm embarrassed to say they used the same noise machine and trimmed up our butts too.  I hope that never happens again!  Mom thinks I look real handsome.  I even wore the scarf until we got home and Stanley started using it to drag me around.  I finally weigh 10 pounds 3 ounces but Stanley is much fatter bigger at 17.6 pounds.  I have to agree, I do look handsome.

Here's my side view so you can admire the total effect.  Mom said my fur is silky soft.  Stanley is more woolly and poodle-ish.  Can you see my muscles?

In case you didn't notice, my paws are nice and even now instead of scraggly looking.  It never bothered me but mom seems impressed.  I don't know what difference it makes when I get in the mud anyway.

The biggest surprise was what Stanley looked like when he was done being groomed.  Our peeps were shocked!  All his woolly hair was fluffed up and the groomers said he looked like a cloud.  I took one look at him and I knew he looked like a disco king from the 80's!  He had a big ol' afro!  This picture doesn't even capture the effect.

As soon as we got home, Stanley ran to the mirror.  I never said anything before but he spends a lot of time admiring himself in the mirror.  At night, the tinted windows become reflective like a mirror and he stares at himself.  Also, when we go to bed, he likes to watch himself in the mirror on top of the dresser.  Stanley really likes what he sees!

I have to admit, he is good looking.  I mean, we share DNA so why shouldn't he?  Mom said the fluff out makes him look softer and more puppy-like.  Stan says he looks more studly!

When mom and dad heard Stanley call himself studly they said, "Oh boys, we have another appointment for you on June 5th."  But we aren't sure what it is because it was a word we didn't learn yet.  Anybody know what "neuter" means?

Water Fun Is Tiring

There hasn't been a lot going on the past couple of days.  Me and Stanley have just been hanging out at the pool.

Stanley is bigger so he can actually leap into the pool.  We spent a lot of time in it yesterday.  When we were all getting ready for bed last night Stanley decided to take a last minute quick dip.  Mom said, "Bad timing Stanley."
After we got out of the pool I was cold so I went into the Doodle Clubhouse to find something to put on.  Stanley came running over because he thought I was rooting through the toy box.

In the afternoon we were all really tired so we decided to take a nap.

Stanley couldn't decide where he wanted to sleep.

I was so tired that I fell asleep before I even got into my bed.

Running Peeps

One more strange thing happened last night, Shane came over and spent the night with us.  The grand peeps came too but did not spend the night.  Me and Stanley played with Jackson and had great fun!  Jackson tired us out so much that during the night Stanley rolled off the end of the bed and got stuck between the mattress and the foot board.  His body slipped through but his big ol' head was too big to keep going so his feet dangled and he was stuck.  Luckily mom and dad woke up and rescued him.  Then we all went back to sleep.

Then in the middle of the night, mom said it was 3:45 a.m. whatever that means, everyone got up and got dressed.  Then, just like mom said, me and Stanley went to the clubhouse and everyone else drove off.  They were gone a long time.  When they got back, Shane was not there and mom and dad smelled really good, like sweaty socks!  It turns out that they ran in the marathon this morning (the half marathon actually, mom says 13.1 miles is plenty).  They were very happy with their results.  My dad (1:53:46)  even got a first place award for his age division!  Mom got was is called a PR which means she ran it faster than she ever did before (2:05:52).  After mom and dad took a shower, me and Stanley went with them to the race to pick up dad's award.  There were so many people there!  Many people stopped to say how cute we are.  I just said, "Of course we are, we're Golden Doodles!"  When me and Stanley get done growing we will start running with mom and dad.  We can't wait!

What's Up?

Mom and Dad are acting weird.  They're getting all their running stuff together and say it's because they have to leave very early in the morning.  Mom said me and Stan will go to the clubhouse while it is still dark!  This is very strange and we're not sure what's going on but mom said this is what she will wear in the morning.

At The Parkway

It has sure been a busy couple of days!  After our hike (it ended up being 2 miles) and escape on Tuesday, dad found the weak spot in the fence and fixed it.  So we're locked up tight once again!  Then they went to the store, and you are NOT going to believe this, bought a pool for the clubhouse!  Yup, a little blue pool.  Stanley and I have both waded in it but mostly we think it is a giant water dish.  Mom said they are going to put more water in it once we are used to it.

Yesterday, we went to the river parkway and walked a mile.  We also waded in the little spot by where the dinosaurs live.  We met a zillion people there!  There were also many dogs but most of them were not friendly so they did not stop to say hello.  But one Golden Retriever did stop to say hello and I remembered my manners and did not jump all over him.  We became new friends immediately!  As we walked back to the parking lot, a lady was driving her car and stopped, rolled down the window and told mom we were so cute she had to stop.  I suppose we are cute if we're stopping traffic!  On the way home we stopped at Petco and we got to go in the store!

Today we went back to a different spot of the parkway but we didn't meet any new people.  It was scary because so many bikers just flew past us!  Mom and dad had to be careful to make sure we were not in the way of them!  But we got to wade in the river again!  This time we went into a little spot by the stadium.  As soon as we got there we waded right into the water.  It was great fun!  We also met another new friend, he was a Irish Setter.  But we were so excited we forgot all our manners and jumped all over him.  He tolerated us well but I don't think he really wants to be our friend.  We think he was just being nice when he said it was nice to meet us.  We walked just over a mile.

Dad and Stanley, after our walk today.

Me and Mom, after our walk today.
After we got home, we went into the house and fell asleep.  Stanley likes to sleep around toys so he can squeak them if he wakes up.

I was so tired, I just went to bed.  I am exhausted!
